Last night, I had the privilege of attending a beautiful debut celebration here in the Philippines.
A Filipino debut is a formal 18th birthday party celebrating a young woman’s transition to womanhood. This is similar to the quinceañera celebration.
Key Traditions include 18 Roses (where 18 male guests dance with the debutante) and a father-daughter dance. The event is a joyous gathering of family and friends to honour the debutante and her journey into adulthood.
It was lovely to witness this beautiful ceremony. I got a little misty-eyed during one of the most touching parts. When the debutante walked towards her spot, the moment her father presented her with a bouquet and danced with his little girl. It instantly made me think of my own sister and my dad, and how meaningful these milestones are for families.
